Lineage
Fruit phenology and abundance was surveyed on the Samford Peri-Urban 1 ha plot from 2015 - 2016. Fruit phenology and abundance was surveyed across three transect (100 m x 5 m). Exact counts of flowers and fruit were made where possible. Where this was not possible, estimates of flowering and fruiting were made within each transect for tree, shrub and ground layers were made. Firstly, the number of flowering and fruiting heads were counted and then multiplied by a mean value based on the numbers of fruits and flowers/head for ten representative samples of selected species (see Samford_Peri-urban_fruit_phenology_multiplier_data.csv file for details). Logarithmic estimates were made where exact counts of individual flowers or fruit, or the number of flowering or fruiting heads could not be counted. Logarithmic estimations were: log2=10–100, log3=100–1000, log4=1000–10000 and log5=10000–100000, with a midpoint of these ranges taken for the final calculations.
