This data contains vertical vegetation profiles of 33 one-hectare plots in Karawatha Peri-Urban site, including species richness, stem density, and frequencies of vegetation at 12 different stratum heights.

Lineage
Vertical vegetation profiles were determined at each of 33 plots using the methods outlined by Condit 1998 (Condit, R. 1998. Tropical forest census plots: methods and results from Barro Colorado Island, Panama, and a comparison with other plots. Berlin; New York: Springer-Verlag). Vegetation transects were completed along the entire 250m plot length, 10m to the right of each plot midline. At 10m intervals a 5m telescopic pole was vertically erected to determine the presence or absence of vegetation within ten height classes. Below 5m the presence or absence of vegetation was determined at 1m intervals, while intervals of 5-10m, 10-15m, 15-20m, 20-30m and >30m were assessed visually above the 5m stratum. Within each stratum the 26 estimates were averaged to obtain a single value for each plot (i.e. one value per stratum). Measurements were taken during the period August 2007 to January 2008.
