Data on weather conditions at the Daintree Rainforest, Cow Bay site collected between 2008 - 2014. Weather station data includes daily records of air temperature, wind speed, solar radiation, relative humidity and rainfall.

We at TERN acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Australia, New Zealand and all nations. We honour their profound connections to land, water, biodiversity and culture and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. Funding for this project was provided by grants from the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research (DIISRTE), Tertiary Education and the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI), The Marine and Tropical Sciences Research Facility (MTSRF) and James Cook University.
Purpose
Collection of baseline weather data
Lineage
Weather data collected using an automatic weather station (Weathermaster 2000 model, Environdata, Australia) located on site at 90m ASL near the edge of the forest. Station height: 25.0m; Surface type: wooden viewing platform. Rainfall was recorded using a tipping bucket rain gauge (accuracy 2%, resolution 0.2 mm), temperature was recorded using a semiconductor sensor (accuracy 0.2 °C, resolution 0.1 °C), relative humidity using an electronic capacitance sensor (accuracy 4%, resolution 0.1%). Wind speed was recorded using a 3 cup anemometer (resolution 0.1 kph, threshold 1 kph), wind direction was measured using a Hall effect sensor (resolution 2°, accuracy 2°). Global incoming radiation was measured with a pyranometer using cosine correction (accuracy 3%). When sensor failure occurred gap filling was carried out where possible using data from the local Ozflux station or the nearby Bureau of Meteorology precipitation data (Daintree Tee) – this has been identified in the dataset. Data was stored at hourly intervals and summed or averaged to provide daily values Hourly data is available by contacting Associate Professor Mike Liddell directly.
