METADATA

NSW Forest Monitoring and Improvement Program Forest Plot Network Ground Based Lidar Pilot

Description

Data is provided for fifteen native forest plots in NSW measured in April 2021 during a pilot of potential field measurement methods for the state-wide forest plot network as part of the NSW Forest Monitoring and Improvement Program. Data includes tree height, diameter, canopy cover, species composition, coarse woody debris, fuel hazard, Biodiversity Assessment Method structure, as well as raw and processed data from terrestrial LiDAR scans.

Credit
We at TERN acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Australia, New Zealand and all nations. We honour their profound connections to land, water, biodiversity and culture and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Purpose
To pilot a range of field measurement methods to test cost-effectiveness.

Data Processing
The LiDAR dataset is provided in *.LAZ format without a coordinate system (18 plots). Some of these plots were captured twice, resulting in a total of 34 scanned datasets. Only 28 scans were translated into MGA 2020 zone 56. The raw LiDAR point clouds were processed for this delivery using:

  • LAStools (3 October 2020)
  • Quick Terrain Modeler (8.1.1)
  • ArcMap (10.5.1)
  • ArcGIS Pro (2.4.0)
